Full Guide
Crests
Starting the game, you have to know your team composition, but remember it's also about playstyle more than raw value.
If you have at least another full tank (either in the jungle like Rampage or as a support like Riktor or Steel), you can opt for an Occult Crest with either
Obelisk if you want burst damage or
Tempest for sustained fighting. It's better than the
Titan Crest (but still not obligatory) in the unlikely case where you have two full tanks in the team already.
If you are the lone tank then it's strategically safer to opt for the Titan Crest because you optionally won't miss out on too much damage and gain much needed survivability. All of them are ok at worst but be aware of the differences:
Nyr Warboots offers good health value (45% health lost) and the best utility under the form of speed movement. Be wary that the health value can be fully obtained if you survive long enough (8 seconds!!!) and that you don't really need the speed movement as a Sevarog, but it's still crazy good if you are in a poor position or if you like to engage head on (good synergy with
Vanguardian )
Razorback offers the best "negative" health value (50% damage reflection) but for the shortest amount of time and without any utility. Very good if you are against burst or high damage enemies.
Saphir's Mantle could be considered the weakest since it offers the lowest health value (only 20%) and you can't capitalize on the basic attack slow given how much Sevarog basic attacks suck. At least it has the longest duration and it's by far the easiest to use.
First item
There are two main choices and an experimental one.
Vitality Beads is usually the main line sev goes through. It gives you more health to capitalize on the life regen of the siphon ability, prioritize them against aggressive heroes EG Grux, Feng Mao and Shinbi. It also fast-tracks you towards
Fire Blossom.
Codex is probably a bit underrated but it makes farming a little bit easier, you get good value as long as you use your siphon offensively and also marginally improves your lifestealing capabilities. It's usually better against less lethal opponents like Steel or Rampage. Initially you have to stay in the lane a bit more to get your or
World Breaker, so it's not that big of a deal.
Life Stream is potentially good but you basically capitalize on very passive opponents, otherwise you'll just die and not get the regen value. You would also get the gold value back only when you start building
Raiment of Renewal and most times games don't go for that long.
You could build armor for survivability, but: a) you don't get the synergy with siphon; b) usually the damage is evenly spread out between the two for most heroes anyway.
Main build breakdown
Here is a brief explanation of the standard build.
Fire Blossom is 95% of the time the best option. You just can't pass out on that juicy passive damage. Enough said
Flux Matrix is straight up increase in magical DPS not just for you but for all of your teammates around you. It also features essential cooldown reduction to make life easier and farming smoother.
World Breaker simply synegyses wonderfully with the build in order to get both health and damage.
Lifebinder gets you better ability damage and also increases your sustain. You can swap it with World breaker if you want to get it while still in the laning phase.
Raiment of Renewal tops it off with survivability, sustain and overall synergy with all the health you built so far.
Situationally essential items for counter-building
In here i'll put all the other items you might want to build, depending on the situation. I specifically wrote "Situationally essential" because some, like Tainted Guard and
Unbroken Will, can be easily ignored most times but basically become must haves in the right situation.
Tainted Guard is the go-to item whenever you see a strong Khaimera, Rampage or any Hero/carry with good basic attack sustain. Remember you can basically build it anytime you feel it's relevant at any point of the game, its strategic importance cannot be understated.
((Unbroken Will) will save your bacon against CrowdControl heavy comps, simple as. Not as flexible as tainted guard but potentially game-winning.
Tainted Bastion is a must against a good Countess or any magical bruiser that likes building magical sustain like Shinbi or Gideon, especially if they get
Soulbearer.
Wardens Faith will ensure you survive longer and are more lethal against good carries when they become too strong with high crit damage/attack speed.
Crystalline Cuirass is a more well-rounded item that grants you an edge against magical damage-heavy team compositions with a good blend of armor, health and magical damage.
Void Helm is the obvious option for more survivability,
Golem's Gift if there are more than one strong burst/combo heroes.
is an unusual item but still very much viable if you want to put more emphasis on the damage-side of Sevarog while still keeping the function of regen-dampening.
If i missed any item it doesn't mean they are necessarily bad, just that they are more situational and/or without an immediate/strong synergy with sevarog or the rest of the build. EG: Items such as Stonewall,
Citadel and
Vanguardian rely, in my humble opinion, more on personal playstile than enemy composition; you are free to disagree.
I did not include Dynamo given the recent nerf that made it fall down in viability and made
Fire Blossom king again.
